The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum has described as "vexatious" the decision by the federal government of Nigeria to build ranches with public fund. These ranches according to News this morning will be built in 10 states of the federation.
SSN News Info gathered that the Ranch-building project which has been estimated to cost NGN 178 Billion has been seriously opposed by the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders who described cattle rearing as a private business. The leaders were quoted as saying that "these herdsmen are private businessmen who do not have any records of paying tax".
The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders' Forum made this statement yesterday Wednesday in response to the official declaration by the National Economic Council that the Federal Government has earmarked over 179 billion naira for a National Livestock Plan project which would last a period of 10 years.
According to the plan, 70 billion naira will be
disbursed now and the end of President Buhari’s first tenure in 2019 which
shall be used for the construction of ranches in Benue, Oyo, Nasarawa and seven
other states in Nigeria.
