With poor public electricity supply to homes in Nigeria, power generators have become a common sight in every home. Unfortunately, while these electricity generating sets helps to alleviate the sufferings of lack of power supply in Nigeria, it has become a veritable partner for thieves and other criminals who perpetuate their crimes under the cover of the noisy generating sets. It is worthy of note that the public safety and private security of Nigerians are being compromised as a result of operating noisy generating sets especially at late hours of the night.

Such development has undeniably rendered the Nigerian public insecure. More frightening is the fact that noise from generators could be as loud as could hide or mask gunshot sounds. Several incidents of theft, burglary, robbery, kidnapping or even assassinations have been reported as undetected and successful because some person's generating sets were running at odd times. These security breaches are more common in high density residential areas. This means where many people live in clusters with many families owning power generators that are not regulated.

If the Nigerian Government cannot guarantee steady public electricity power supply, the could at least regulate the late hour use of noisy power generating sets to safeguard the lives and property of the Nigerian people.
