If you are reading this post, you are on your way to hitting
at that lucrative job of your dreams. Maybe you have been applying for job
vacancies on newspapers, internet, radio and TV yet, after so many years no
organization has invited you for interviews nor aptitude test. Are you
beginning to think that some spiritual forces are working against your success
in life? My friend you are normal.
The only force against you that can actually stand against
you is you. Yes, only the things you allow to affect you – consciously or
unconsciously, are what truly affects you. Because you may not have the
knowledge about some mistakes tyou make, such may peg you down until you
realize it, do something about it and then your life can move on.
The truth is that there are many job opportunities in this
country – Nigeria. Most job opportunities in both public and private sectors are
unfortunately not advertised and when they do, the jobs are sadly less
considerate of qualified candidates. I stand a better chance of getting that
same job if my uncle is highly placed in the society. Accept this fact or
not…but this is not meant to be so.
However, it is only profitable to position yourself as a
graduate of a higher institution, to grab any opportunity that comes your way.
Out of every 10 career opportunities, over 50% are still allotted to qualified
candidates. The question is – what would you do to be among the chosen?
this post reveals what makes you stand out among millions of other job seekers, that ensures employees easily locate you.
COMMON MISTAKES JOB SEEKERS MAKE WHILE SEEKING JOB / EMPLOYMENTS
Changing Several Phone Contacts – SIM Cards
Statistics have shown that no Nigerian, including job seekers
has just a single phone contact number. Even you reading this post has got more
than one phone contact number – SIM Card. While in school and upon proceeding
to the conventional industrial training IT, you prepare your curriculum vitae
CV and inscribe an MTN number as your contact number.
By the time you graduate, you would have had upto two or
three more phone lines. Recall that during your IT you establish career
relationships. These relationships may prove useful when you must have
graduated. Unfortunately, these contacts may not be able to connect to you by
the time you had changed to several other phone contacts. As a job seeker
wishing not to spend much time in the labour market, ensure you stick to one
phone number as your contact always.
Maintain a Single Email Address
From the time of firstly circulating your CV and applying for
jobs till you get old, retire and die, you are encouraged to maintain a single
email address in all your career and official correspondences. Even in your
social, religious and other vocational engagements, you are advised to maintain
a single email address. By doing so, you are building a network of contact
platforms that would successfully link back to you anytime anyway.
You remain visible to the social, academic, vocational and
professional world by the far-reaching effect of your widely circulated email
address and phone numbers. Any credential or CV submitted to any institution
would always remain valid in contacting you even after so many years.
Choose Email Address that Showcase your Name
Most job seekers make the mistake of carelessly choosing what
constitutes their email address.
For instance, my name is Emmanuel Amadi. For easy
representation and recall, it is most appropriate to choose an email that
showcases my name such as emmanuel_amadi@gmail.com or anything choice that
identifies you by name. Employees can easily spot you in a pool of job seekers’
applications through your email address.
Sadly however if you choose a stylish name such as sharkur2005@gmail.com or some other thing stylish, when it does not represent your official
name, you may not be lucky when serious job opportunities present themselves.
This attribute also show a promising level of responsibility
on the part of the job seeker. Your email address makeup reveals a part of your
character and identity.
After Interviews or Aptitude Tests, Always Call Back or Send Text to Say “Thank you”
Most persons, who are chosen as successful at job employment
aptitude tests or interviews, are not the highest scorers. They are rather
those who have been adjudged not only sound in academics, but in character
formation. It is an established fact that your assessment begins not in the
exam hall or interview room but from the moment you step your feet inside the
premises of your perceived employee. You are being monitored. Your conducts and
behavior give away your relevance to your employee.
But what pays most is when your form the habit of saying
“thank you” for opportunities given to you. If you are invited to participate
in any aptitude test or interview, remember to save the contact number or email
address that informed you. Irrespective of your perceived performance at the
interview, never forget to call back, send text or write to the email address
to say “thank you for the opportunity given you”. Additionally, promise to give
in your best if successfully engaged. This works like magic.
