It is no longer news that the long awaited 2019 general elections in just few hours to commence, were abruptly called off and postponed to a later date by the Nigeria's electoral umpire - INEC.

Perhaps what may be news is the shocking revelations of how the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has neglected their engaged ADHOC staff, whom they intended to make use of befoee the Postponement came.

Our SSN crew went round to evaluate the condition of work provided for the ADHOC staff, who were made to camp or keep vigil at INEC offices as preparations for the elections came to top gear. We gathered that INEC ADHOC staff were left to their fate, to sleep wherever the could find.

Many were seen sleeping under shades, in the open fields despite the harmattan cold, in buses, just everywhere. One of the INEC ADHOC staff and a serving member of the National Youth Service Corp who pleaded anonymity told our crew that with their current plight and lack of proper welfare and logistical plans, the entirety of the ADHOC staff may not be in good shape to deliver their constitutional mandate.

The Youth Corp member went ahead to complain that most of them had broken down with cold, body aches and fatigue and wondered how they could face the day if the general elections had taken place.

As INEC has announced new dates for the elections, giving reasons of wanting to deliver a credible, free and fair general elections to Nigerians, they should know that it would be a wild goose chase if their ADHOC staff are not well taken care of.

Furthermore, it would be a double tragedy for Nigeria's democracy if INEC fails to give Nigerians the best elections as expected by all...considering the reasons given for today's election Postponement.
