It is unbelievable that after many years of troubles, killings and destruction of lives and property of Nigerian citizens by suspected cattle herdsmen in some parts of the country, the federal government of Nigeria is yet to find a solution to the menace. Nigerians have seen the Boko Haram rose and decimated, militancy in the Niger Delta virtually in check, cattle rustlers almost vanquished in the north, even the proscribed IPOB has been largely put in check. Why has the issue of the Fulani herdsmen remained a hard nut to crack? Are cows more valuable than the lives of Nigerian citizens?

The Nigerian government cannot claim that they do not have the capacity to curb the excesses of these herdsmen. Although there have been claims that the perpetrators of these reoccurring community cleansing may not necessarily be the regular cattle herdsmen we see everyday.  When our dear herdsmen go about with their cattlesw unrestrained, with fully loaded AK-47 rifles and other weapons, threatening and assaulting anyone who dared stop or try to restrain their movement, then not much is needed to actually needed to connect them to the prevailing monstrous killings by suspected Fulani cattle herdsmen.
Herdsmen killings in Nigeria

Some Nigerians are of the opinion that the Nigerian President vMohammadu Buhari lacks the political and administrative will to checkmate the gruesome excesses of these Fulani herdsmen because he too is of the Fulani tribe extraction. Could this be true? Irrespective of where Mr President is from, he must know that he is the President of Nigeria, and not the Fulanis. He is under oath to protect the lives and property of the entire nation as well as uphold the constitution of the country which seeks to better the lives and welfare of the entire citizenry.

Nigerians are no longer interested in the measures taken by the government and the security agencies to prevent reoccurence, the stories are too much . We are not interested in the efforts made, we are only interested in the results. Let this menace not ever happen again!

Of the truth, Nigerians are tired of this ugly situation.Even our security agencies now speak politically by coming out publicly to condemn any incident, promise investigations and to bring perpetrators to justice yet, nothing is always logically concluded after that.  Sincerely, the kid gloves nature by which the Nigerian Government is handling this herdsmen killings leaves Nigerians with little or no choice than to believe that our government is tribalistic. If the Buhari government could stop the Boko Haram, cattle rustlers, IPOB, and even militancy, this same government should rise up to the challenge and prove to Nigerians that it is always above-board especially when the lives of her citizens are threatened.

The recent herdsmen killings in Benue state is one major incident, the last stroke that may break the camel,s back, among many other incidents which Nigerians will continue to hold our government to account for. this is no longer a sectional nor ethnic issue but rather, a national and international issue. Of course, the eyes of the international community is on Nigeria concernin these herdsmen killing issues.

A word is enough for the wise!
