This time, I heard it as a shocking news. I recall about 15 months ago when Emab Plaza, in Wuse 2 district of Abuja was struck by a huge bomb blast. Barely one minute and some seconds saved me from the point of impact as the taxi which I boarded had its rare glasses shattered from the impact of the blast as we drove off. Yes I recall that the ugly incident occurred in June 24, 2014.

No sense of national insecurity could send more chilling feelings as that of the fear of suicide or discreet bomb attacks. In one of my previous posts, I told a true story of how fears of suicide bomb blasts influenced my public security strategy. it happened because I had never been so close as to being hit by a bomb as to the Emab plaza, Abuja bomb blast.

Sights and Sound of the Abuja Bomb Blast
It has happened again! This time, twin bomb blasts simultaneously struck two different locations in Abuja the Federal Capital Territory FCT with heavy casualties on Friday 2nd October, 2015. Thank God I was far away in Owerri, Imo State when it happened but news sources say over 15 people were murdered in cold blood. The Kuje area of FCT suffered the first hit and 13 bodies went lifeless with 20 others seriously injured. As if that was not enough, Nyanya returned to the headlines with another surprise hit that instantly claimed 2 lives and wounded 19 others. According to sources from the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, this brought the total of the dead to 15 confirmed bodies with plenty injuries of different degrees.

Abuja is burning again! Boko Haram knows it has been defeated and are currently fighting in desperation. The fight of a wounded lion no doubt, could be deadly. Therefore, it is not enough to announce successes of the military but to entrench a system where security and safety of Nigeria and all Nigeria will thrive. Otherwise, I am afraid Nigeria may experience more of pockets of retaliatory resistance and suicide attacks. Our security experts should know better.

I also heard that Military sources announced that intelligence report indicated that having suffered terrible defeat and closeness to extinction, the book Haram terror group is frantically trying to scatter their dragnet to all parts of the country. This as expected would make it more difficult for the Government security networks to predict or detect the activities of the insurgent group. Of course, we need not be told that the cities of Abuja and Lagos, being the two most viable cities in Nigeria would be their most desired targets.

Abuja burns again but I am tempted to believe that the Armed Forces and indeed all security forces in  Nigeria and beyond would join hands to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again. It is time to bring insecurity in this country to a halt. If you believe in this course, share this post with friends and encourage them to share. #SafeAndSecureNigeria#
