The Nigeria Police is at it again! Following series of security breaches in Nigeria which included kidnap, concealed transporting of drugs, weapons and contrabands with tinted glass vehicles, the Nigeria police has declared a massive and nationwide clampdown on all users of unapproved tinted glass cars on Nigerian roads. This order was issued by the Inspector-General of Police Mr. Solomon Arase few days ago.

Let us recall that in my previous posts, I mentioned about the indiscriminate use of sirens as an obvious security concern for all Nigerians. The use of tinted glasses by almost all and sundry is also becoming rampant, disturbing and obviously an instrument used in perpetrating crime all over Nigeria.

With this new directive, any car with tinted glasses which is not duly approved will be impounded and the owner arrested. It is only the Inspector-General of Police that has the sole right to give approval on the use of tinted glasses all over Nigeria. Therefore, every police unit has been mandated by this new directive to stop, search and determine the tinted glass approval status of any car with dark glasses plying the roads with a view to either arresting the owner and impounding the vehicle if found wanting.

This is not a time to compromise. The image of the police is at stake here. The security and safety of lives and property of Nigerians are at stake here. The police must rise up to this challenge in line with the job's demand in this 21st century Nigeria.

Before now, such tinted glass cars are mostly used by dirty politicians and the other elites in the Nigerian society who can obviously afford a tinted glass vehicle to transport their kidnapped victims and other objects which are classified detrimental to nation's domestic and national security without being detected.

How The Public can help the Police Clampdown on Unapproved Tinted Glass Vehicles

The Nigerian public has a distinct role to play towards ensuring that all unapproved tinted glass vehicles are removed from the roads. The Nigeria police and other security, safety and emergency agencies in Nigeria have got active hotlines for the public to call whenever threat to their security is seen or heard and times of emergency. Therefore when you see any tinted glass vehicle and you suspect that the user may not have been approved, it is your duty to memorize the plate number of such vehicle and report the vehicle to the police authorities through any of those released phone numbers.

Nigerians must not allow the Police to do this job of safeguarding and securing our lives and property alone. Every Nigerian needs to be a partner in progress. The time to stamp out impunity and insecurity from Nigeria is now.
