Welcome to my SafeAndSecureNigeria Blog. This is the maiden publication of this safety and security awareness and news blog. You are reading this post most probably because you feel much concerned about the security challenges facing Nigeria and you wish there would be a solution. Surly, there is always a solution. I do not only refer to the popular fight against insurgency currently going on in the north east part of the country. I speak about the general safety and security status-quo of your individual person, your community, region and the entire country.

SECURITY CONSCIOUSNESS IN NIGERIA

How much do you know about safety and security? How conscious are you of your neighborhood, offices, locality, region or even on the roads as regards safety and security? Do you know that most accidents, breach of peace, chaos, fights or fatalities would be prevented if the people concerned are steadily conscious of their activities and environment? This blog post aims to create that much-needed security and safety awareness in Nigerians hence their consciousness.

Let us understand that even in the most developed countries of the world, the effectiveness of their domestic and international security largely depends on their intelligence network. “Intelligence” here must not just be the likes of the legendary “James Bond 007” in the movies or some other spy networks. I am talking about personal information intelligence gathering, level of societal awareness, neighbor-to-neighbor interactions, community-to-community efforts as well as collaborative synergy between the civil community and the law enforcement agencies of the government. Nigeria must not be an exception.

The question is, “can one offer what one does not have?” the answer is “NO”. This is why information is key in enhancing one’s security consciousness. Information is obtained when you read books, articles, listen to radio, TV, share ideas with people on different forum and importantly, surf websites like my SafeAndSecureNigeria Blog.

Unfortunately, Nigeria is currently facing huge personal and collective security challenges. These range from terrorism and insurgency, armed robbery and kidnapping, vandalism and theft, cyber-crime and financial fraud, gangster action, cultism and so many others. The good news is that the government of Nigeria has gradually risen to the challenge and is taking the battle head-on.

This is not a battle for the government alone. Of course, the victory over this battle largely depends on the citizens, their collaborative as well as conscious efforts. Nigerians need to be detailed more on how her civilian populace can effectively combat crime and live safely without taking laws into their hands. Educating the citizens in this light will help create a well-targeted consciousness and steady awareness which will translate to a safer and better secured Nigeria society.

I urge you to engage this blog and all its social media platforms so that together we can consolidate on government’s efforts to create a more aware, safer, secured and better Nigeria. I gladly welcome your comments and inputs as you remember to share this publication with friends and family on social media.
